Serjirism Creates El Paso’s Largest Sustainable Art Installation

A new chapter in El Paso’s artistic evolution has begun with a monumental public art project by Serjirism Industrial Art and its founder, Serjik Leon. Commissioned by the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD), this large-scale installation stands as the most ambitious sustainable art project ever produced by a local artist for the city — a bold fusion of creativity, technology, and environmental consciousness.

Unveiled during Chalk the Block, El Paso’s signature yearly art festival held in the heart of Downtown El Paso, the installation captured the imagination all of its visitors. The event served as the perfect stage for Serjirism’s vision — merging community, light, and industrial design into one powerful experience.

Built entirely from recycled materials sourced from the industrial sector, the installation redefines how we perceive both art and sustainability. The structure features pallet racking as its architectural framework, industrial vents as sculptural elements, and SMT technology stencils reimagined as glowing chandeliers, illuminated by vibrant LED lighting.

Every component of the piece tells a story — of transformation, renewal, and the power of industrial waste turned into wonder. What was once machinery and scrap has become an immersive artistic experience, symbolizing El Paso’s innovative spirit and its growing presence in the global art landscape.

“We’re proud to say this is the largest sustainable art installation the city has ever hosted,” says Serjik Leon, founder of Serjirism and a UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) graduate. “This project shows that creativity and sustainability can coexist — and that El Paso is ready to lead the conversation in industrial art and environmental innovation.”

Serjirism continues to push boundaries, revolutionizing public art through industrial recycling and creative engineering. This project not only transforms public space — it puts El Paso on the map as a hub for large-scale sustainable art, joining the ranks of major cities, museums, and galleries around the world.

The future of art is industrial.
And it’s being built right here, in El Paso.T
